The Business Executive magazine hereunder introduces its new awards scheme: THE GHANA PHILANTHROPY AWARDS.
This novel award scheme will identify and publicly recognize, institutions enterprises and individuals that have made outstanding philanthropic interventions to either to manage and resolve crisis situations or to accelerate socio-economic growth and development for the nation as a whole, and/or for specific demographic, geographic, social and/or economic segments of the populace. The focus will primarily be on humanitarian interventions and efforts to improve the living standards of the national or community specific populace or to alleviate social and economic dislocations caused by crisis situations.
The awards scheme specifically targets indigenous institutions, enterprises and individuals that deserve to be tagged as Ghana’s Development Partners for their taking responsibilities that are normally those of the State. This is deserving because while such interventions attract immediate attention when they are made they are oft forgotten thereafter especially since political exigencies demand that government ultimately claims all the accolades for the country’s socio-economic growth and development including management and resolution of crises whenever they occur.
The awards will be split into two broad categories as follows: A) SUPPORT FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT Awards will be conferred under this category to individuals, institutions and enterprises that are outstanding in their commitment to supporting the efforts of the state with regards national and/or community specific social and economic growth and development through their structured interventions with regards to the provision of infrastructure, public goods and services, economic empowerment etc.
B) SUPPORT FOR CRISES MANAGEMENT & ALLEVIATION The most recent example of such interventions is the biggest one to date - the support provided to Ghanaians by private individuals, enterprises and institutions in the fight against the health and economic impacts of COVID 19. However our awards are all-encompassing, aimed at identifying exemplary conduct and contributions whether in response to specific situations and circumstances (such as COVID 19 and other health threats including ebola, cholera; natural disasters such as floods; and civil unrest and strife, such as ethnic disputes) or in response to crises that erupt because of long running themes and challenges such as lack of adequate access to education, health, gainful employment etc.
